  • GENERAL PURPOSE

    Reporting to AVP for Executive Communications, the Assistant Executive Communications Manager researches and prepares remarks for the University President, responds to emails, correspondence, and other inquiries, and serves as part of an office team that evaluates the President's engagement calendar. This role creates clear, consistent talking points, op-eds, emails, social media posts, and other communications as needed for the President. The position works closely with the AVP for Executive Communications to develop President Mangelsdorf's public platform.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Executive Communications

    Develops, executes, and edits communications for the President, including key content messages for speeches, emails, presentations, columns, correspondence, social media posts, videos, websites, and opinion pieces.

    Research and Prep

    Prepares briefing materials, talking points, and background information for executive interactions with various audiences.

    Collaboration and Coordination

    Partners with other communication professionals to integrate communications for maximum impact

    Outreach and Media Relations

    Liaises with staff responsible for a variety of community outreach activities. Assists in coordinating media interviews, public appearances, and meetings, ensuring executives are well-prepared and have appropriate messaging.

    Strategy and Planning

    Working with the AVP for Executive Communication, identifies opportunities to align executive messaging with the University's mission, goals, and broader campaigns. Manages a communications calendar for the office, as well as the day-to-day flow of communication requests, prioritizing tasks to ensure timely responses.

    Issues Management

    Provides immediate support during crisis communication situations by assisting executives with messaging and partnering with key stakeholders to develop communication strategies.

    Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field (Master's degree preferred) required.

    • Minimum of 5 years' demonstrated experience in daily executive communications, public relations, or corporate communications required.

    • Higher Education experience.

    • or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

    • Excellent communication skills required.

    • Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously required.

    • Proficient in using communication tools and software, and social media platforms required.

    • Intellectual curiosity and the drive to understand complicated communication topics required.

    • Highly accountable with strong attention to detail required.

    • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders required.

    • Experience in handling daily communication needs in a fast-paced environment required.

    • Ability to uphold confidentiality and exhibit the highest level of professionalism required.

    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.

    Pay Range

    Pay Range: $62,525 - $93,766 Annually

    The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
