    The Sr. Upstream Product Marketing Managermaintains responsibility for all aspects of pre-commercial product and market development including, but not limited to, market landscaping and sizing, reimbursement, revenue modelling, voice of customer market research, and launch support. You will develop opportunity assessments, determine strategy and pipeline investment recommendations, as well as have ownership of all marketing deliverables throughout the early phases of the product development process, leading up to transition to the CRM commercial marketing team. This position will require strong focus on business strategy, global portfolio strategy, and financial modeling as well as voice of stakeholder activities, product definition, program scope, and commercialization timing to optimize return on investment. Internally, the Upstream Product Manager will partner closely with RD, Clinical Research and Product Development to ensure alignment between customer needs, product design and evidence collection.

    A Day in the Life

    Product Development

    • Creates, communicates and gains approvalfor annual marketing plan; implements and adjusts accordingly

    • Provides marketingleadership on product development teams

    • Develops customer requirements andproduct claims

    • Processes new product ideas delegatedfrom Physicians and Market analysis

    Product Market Research and Analysis

    • Developscustomer needs analysis, opportunity assessments, and competitive analysis

    • Analyzescomplex interrelated market data and draws conclusions regarding futureopportunities

    • Develops and modifies forecast based on market knowledge and analysis toidentify key trends and investment opportunities

    • Guides product concept, scope, commercial timing, and associatedfinancial trade-offs to optimize business value

    • Define customer value propositions (clinical and economic) supportingrespective programs

    • Builds and leverages strong global Voice of the Stakeholder and KeyOpinion Leader (KOL) partnerships for feedback related to user needs, productstrategy, evidence development, and publication plans.

    • Identifies market research needs, elicits stakeholder inputs by creatingand conducting multiple customer feedback methodologies targeted but notlimited to: patients, Medtronic field staff, clinicians, and hospitaladministrators.

    • Partners with and provides commercial direction to Clinical, Regulatory,Engineering, Operations, Research, and other critical functions in productdevelopment.

    • Contributes to the annual strategic planning process

    • Develops and delivers executive-level presentations to Medtronicleadership and customers.

    • Exercises superior judgment in planning, organizing and executing work;monitors performance and reports program status.

    • Travels domestically and internationally in support of customerengagements and internal Medtronic activities up to 30% of time.

    Leadership, Accountability and Team Building

    • Providesconsistent and objective market information for new product and acquisitionteams

    • Buildsteamwork within department and across functions

    Must Have: Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree required

    • Minimumof 7 years of experience including marketing experience, or advanceddegree with a minimum of 5 years of Marketing, RD, or salesexperience.

    Nice to Have:

    • Experiencein marketing planning, budget management, product launches, team leadership

    • Awarenessand working knowledge of market-based trends in disease management and ongoinghealthcare trends in global market

    • Broadbased working knowledge of product and clinical applications

    • Willingto travel (20-30%)

    • USand International experience desired

    • SoftwareMedical device sales and/or marketing experience; strategic planning experiencea plus


    • Communicateseffectively with medical and research professionals, external and internalclients

    • Superiorwritten and oral communication skills

    • Abilityto work with others on project teams to solve problems, develop initiatives andcomplete requirements for achieving objectives

    • Understandsanatomical and physiological basis for product applications
