  • Job Summary

    Responsible for coordinating and driving the Nursing resources and activities necessary for the design, implementation and delivery of Integrated Care delivery within the Perioperative Services Institute. Facilitates, leads and functions as an organizer, teacher, mentor, administrator, human resource developer, evaluator, public relations person, coach, counselor, public speaker, management consultant and change agent. Directs nursing management teams which interface with clinical institutes, hospitals, and ambulatory surgery centers.

    Job Duties

    • Directly responsible for leadership and oversight of Nursing Services within the Perioperative Services Institute across Geisinger Health.

    • Directly responsible for the patient care services that involve nursing and patient care for the assigned locations and areas.

    • Directly accountable for the management and development of the nursing staffing plans and financial planning within a matrix environment

    • Partners with other VP, CNOs to ensure connectivity within each region to provide efficient care and appropriate hand-offs supporting hospital flow.

    • Monitors and takes action to drive performance that promotes staff engagement, efficient operations, excellence in quality of care, excellence in patient experience.

    • Represents Perioperative Nursing at Surgical Suite Executive committee as a voting member and adds a strong voice at the table with the surgical oriented institutes.

    • Provides executive level interface with clinical leaders within the institutes.

    • Key role model and mentor for new nursing leaders

    • Leads and manages the nursing business affairs including problem solving and performance standard development.

    • Assures the Professional Practice Model is brought to life in all responsible areas.

    • Facilitates nursing practice based on evidence and best practices, and consistent with nursing standards.

    • Effectively communicates vision, goals and initiatives as a system leader and within each region

    • Ensures goals, vision and initiatives are cascaded into unit and department plans.

    • Leads succession planning to assure leadership accountability is achieved and maintained.

    • Facilitates continuing education and research opportunities for employees, self and community to support growth.

    • Utilizes team building concepts to effectively empower team members by serving as a mentor, teacher and coach.

    • Facilitates development, maintenance, and success of teams via mentoring of department and pod leaders.

    • Enhances skills of team members such as decision making, problem solving, conflict resolution, human resource management, communication and leadership.

    • Develops and promotes service standards which foster a customer sensitive environment.

    • Measures performance against standards and assures commitment to metric targets.

    • Remain contemporary with best practices and ensures AORN guidelines and competencies are achieved as adopted and updated.

    • Facilitates staff's management of patients and customer related issues.

    • Ensures that the patient safety improvement and management program will be given high priority and will support the program.

    • Ensures that sufficient time is available for staff participation in patient safety activities at both the department and organizational level.

    • Ensures that staff attend all required patient safety education programs.

    Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - RN_State of Pennsylvania
