    The Vice President, Engineering role is part of the Competence Center Cement team based in Allentown, PA. This position reports directly to the Sr. Vice President, Competence Center Cement, and can be located in Allentown, PA or Irving, TX.

    What you'll get to do:

    This position supports the cement business units in the development, authorization process and execution of complex investment projects that deliver optimal cost, quality and functionality according to the Guideline for Project Management in line with the Heidelberg Materials strategy and the role of CCC. The role sets direction for all aspects of the Project Engineering function for the North American Competence Center Cement (CCC), i.e., project management; civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering; and design of cement plants and cement plant systems.

    • Manage, coordinate, and direct the Project Engineering Department in all aspects of Capital Expenditure (CapEx) project planning, authorization, development, and execution

    • Implement all Group project planning and execution procedures and enforce consistent use of all control tools to ensure close tracking of quality, cost, and time of project execution

    • Manage the Project Engineering Department budget including salaries, travel expenses, computer software and hardware investments

    • Prepare and deliver strategy, organizational, personnel, planning and status reports to all levels of management

    • Plan, schedule and assign work requirements of all Project Engineering Department personnel to ensure a high level of efficiency

    • Participate in the creation of Group-level procedures and manuals for optimal execution of CapEx projects

    • Oversee and direct the selection of cost-effective cement manufacturing solutions

    • In collaboration with the Purchasing Department, negotiate contracts for engineering services, equipment purchases, and civil, mechanical and electrical installation services

    • Consult with the management of all Heidelberg Materials North American operating cement facilities regarding their projects and engineering concerns to determine the best courses of action

    • Coordinate the activities of the Project Engineering Department with all other CCC departments for seamless planning and execution of feasibility studies and medium to large CapEx projects

    • Align the Project Engineering Department strategy with that of Heidelberg Materials North America's and set staffing, policies and procedures accordingly

    • Provide civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and automation design and engineering services to all Heidelberg Materials' plants and terminals through the use of in-house experts and consultants as determined by available resources, and technical and schedule requirements

    • Promote knowledge sharing via lessons learned on completed projects

    • Actively mentor, support, motivate and coach project engineers, managers and teams

    • Identify training and supplemental educational needs of the Project Engineering staff to maintain and improve technical and managerial competencies.

    Who we are looking for:

    • University/College degree in Engineering; Professional Engineering license preferred

    • Ten (10) or more years of supervisory and project management experience in the cement manufacturing industry

    • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of project management tools applied for CapEx projects

    • Proven track record of project management competence gained by direct experience

    • In-depth knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of modern cement manufacturing processes, latest plant design features and equipment, and cost-effective project development and implementation methods

    • Familiarity with current technologies for CO 2 reduction as applied to cement manufacturing such as carbon capture and the use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) including slag and fly ash

    • Thorough understanding of project control tools and applications, cost estimating procedures as related to projects involving civil, mechanical, and electrical construction, and proven direct experience of construction contracts and negotiations

    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing, suited to all levels of Company management including the Board of Directors

    • The ability to influence, develop and change the motivation and behavior of people

    • Proven practical experience in the leadership of a multi-disciplinary group of engineers

    Work Environment:

    • Role operates primarily in in an office setting but will also operate in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions as dictated by project requirements.

    • Must be able to occasionally climb stairs, walk on uneven surfaces and enter confined spaces.
