    Summary:

    Rush University System for Health (RUSH) has prioritized diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) to create an environment in which all leaders, employees, students, and medical staff can thrive. The System Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer (SCDEIO) in partnership with the University Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer (UCDEIO) will provide oversight and leadership to develop new strategies and monitor progress in closing identified gaps against our goal of creating a world class climate and inclusive culture.

    This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Community Health Equity and will provide strategic leadership for the development and implementation of RUSH's system-wide DE&I strategy. RUSH commits to further fostering and cultivating the culture of DE&I and has set ambitious strategic DE&I goals over the next five years.

    RUSH aspires to enhance diversity representation in its composition of providers, top management teams, and board representation. Importantly and in partnership with other strategic initiatives, the SCDEIO will be expected to assist in the measurable advancement of critical strategic initiatives for the current fiscal year and beyond.

    DE&I is the responsibility of every system leader. The SCDEIO will lead the System DE&I Office to advance the DE&I strategy. In particular, the SCDEIO will attend meetings of regional diversity councils, provide guidance to governance, and educate system leadership to advance DE&I practices across RUSH. The SCDEIO will work with the Diversity Leadership Counsil (DLC) and regional diversity councils to set and implement strategies.

    The SCDEIO will assure accurate information concerning our metrics of performance, maintain an inventory of all system DE&I activities, provide expertise concerning new strategic initiatives, communicate our progress, and coordinate these efforts to assure consistency. The SCDEIO will help to blend the individual institutional strategies to create a health system culture of inclusion and belonging.

    Serving as an expert and advisor for Rush leadership, the SCDEIO will ensure all health system leaders and staff are versed in current best practices and engender a nuanced understanding of the complexity of issues involved in creating and maintaining a more inclusive and diverse health system. The SCDEIO will work with the SVP of Community Health Equity, the health system CEOs, COOs, CHROs, medical and nursing leaders and others to ensure the necessary resources are available to implement diversity and inclusion strategies, plans and key performance indicators.

    The SCDEIO will interface with Rush University and the UCDEIO to implement the shared elements of DEI in the strategic plan. Specifically, the SCDEIO will collaborate with the UCDEIO in the development of shared educational initiatives, policies, and practices.

    This leader will be provided with an appropriate staff and budget as well as additional development opportunities for professional growth. Similarly, although envisioned as a full-time position, up to 20% time may be spent in an approved faculty area or administrative position that would complement this work and this leader's development

    Other information:

    • At least 12 years of progressive experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in a complex organization, including a minimum of eight years in a leadership role, preferably in the healthcare industryMaster's degree and above or relevant experience in field

    • Knowledge in the field of diversity science

    • Demonstrated cultural humility and the ability to engage and build relationships with underrepresented communities and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

    • Comfortable challenging the status quo with a passion to deliver results in a dynamic environment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate health system strategies and programs and develop actionable goals and measurable outcomes to achieve our vision of a world class inclusive culture.

    • Create a single source of information concerning DE&I metrics for the health system and report annually to leadership and governing board.

    • Lead annual DE&I index creation and approval as it pertains to the health system.

    • Provide leadership in linking operations/health care delivery systems with strategic health policy and population health planning as it pertains to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    • Communicate the health system DE&I vision and strategic initiatives and assure coordination with the strategies of other components of Rush.

    • Work closely with employees, leaders, and boards to assure representation of all interests and concerns.

    • Provide insights into best practices for RUSH DE&I efforts.

    • Work with health system leadership to effectively address issues that might arise within Rush.

    • Work effectively with the DLC and all affinity groups to assure inclusion of diverse opinions in the development of plans.

    • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements regarding culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

    • Work health system leadership on public policy issues that might impact DE&I efforts.

    • Utilize knowledge of health care issues affecting minoritized or disinvested communities and culturally responsive and accessible health care delivery systems to recommend strategies, policies, procedures, and practices to advance DE&I goals.

    • Help lead system DE&I 5-year strategic plan development and approval.

    • Support and expand Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).

    • In partnership with Human Resources, develop strategies to advance employee diversity, inclusion, belonging and advancement.

    • Assist in development and deployment of systemwide diversity and anti-racism training and other DE&I education.

    • Work with senior leadership to develop board and leadership DE&I training and representation goal setting.

    • Align and partner with the Office of University DE&I, Rush BMO Institute for Health Equity, Community Health Equity & Engagement, regional leadership, human resources, and diversity leaders across the system.
