    This role will primarily be supporting the Mercy Health Thrift Shop.

    Summary:

    Under the supervision of the Director of Volunteer / Auxiliary Resources, oversees interviewing, orienting and scheduling of new and experienced volunteers. Responsible for working with department directors to address volunteer needs within assigned departments. Responsible for volunteer placement, follow-up and cross training. Manages/ supervises an average of 500 active volunteers to maintain volunteer activity and effectiveness within assigned areas/departments, primarily being the Mercy Health Thrift shop. (Adults, College, Teens & Shadowing)

    Essential Duties:

    • Screens and selects volunteer applicants and determines appropriate volunteer placement in coordination with volunteer availability and institution needs.

    • Interviews, orients, trains, evaluates, monitors volunteers and encourages cross training. Stays in contact with assigned volunteers to maintain retention with a heavy emphasis on follow-up and communication.

    • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Mercy Health St. Rita's strategic plan in order to investigate and establish new areas of service throughout the hospital system.

    • Meets with assigned department directors to identify volunteer needs. Develops and implements strategy to meet those needs. Monitors effectiveness of department programs.

    • With guidance from director, answers special project requests and places volunteers accordingly, both short and long term as needed.

    • Maintains adequate volunteer schedules for assigned volunteer areas. Secures substitutes for assigned areas/departments. Monitors and plans for seasonal volunteer fluctuations.

    • Is responsible for maintenance of quality customer service in assigned departments. If volunteer or staff member has a complaint or suggestion with regard to volunteer services, works closely with department director or manager to rectify situation. In forms Director of Volunteer / Auxiliary Resources as appropriate.

    • Recommends and implements appropriate education for volunteers.

    • Supports the Director of Volunteer / Auxiliary Resources regarding departmental costs. Is aware of budget and strategic plan. Structures program to meet budget and strategic goals.

    • Updates and maintains adequate supplies for orientations, training and ongoing programs. Applications, manuals, business cards, etc.

    • Assists Director in implementing a recruitment strategy to reach potential volunteers.

    • Oversees and maintains a volunteer database (including volunteer hours and program statistics).

    • High School Diploma or GED Required

    • 2 year/Associates Degree Preferred

    • 2 years' experience work within a volunteer program.

    Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Skill in adapting communication to individual needs, in a pleasant, tactful and helpful manner. Ability to manage multiple priorities as well as work with frequent interruptions. Ability to work independently. Skill in problem solving. Ability to work in a team environment with an orientation to providing excellent customer service. Knowledge of program development and evaluation. Ability to read and write, including charts, reports, policies, procedures, manuals and contracts. Must have knowledge of mathematical computations necessary to analyze costs for program. Ability to use personal computer including Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Word and Power Point.

    Experience with volunteer program Volgistics - Preferred
