About the Job Reporting to the Chief Development Officer of BIDMC/BILH, the Vice President, Philanthropy is responsible for advancing fundraising activities in support of BIDMC's strategic priorities. The VP will oversee principal and major gifts, as well as planned giving fundraising, and will also have oversight of BIDMC's $750 million capital campaign. He/she will work closely with the President of the Medical Center and the CDO to staff the top prospects of the institution, including developing strategies for engagement, stewardship and solicitation at the $5M+ level. He/she will be a member of the CDO's executive management team. The VP will build strong working relationships with staff and Board leadership, Chiefs and other key leaders to successfully drive forward our fundraising priorities and engage the most important prospects to ensure that BIDMC remains one of their highest philanthropic priorities. The VP will be the key liaison between the Development Office and the President's Office. Responsible for prioritizing and implementing all aspects of the Presidential activity as it relates to development activities of the President and his family. He/she will build and manage a staff of 30+ including several Managing Executive Directors, the Executive Director of Major Gifts, Principal and Major Gifts Officers as well Planned Giving Staff. He/she will oversee the planning and implementation to achieve the fundraising goals of the current capital campaign in the priority areas including a new inpatient tower, Cardiovascular Services, Neurosciences, Cancer, Healthcare Innovation and Digestive Diseases. VP will also manage a select portfolio of system level principal gift prospects and will work with the CEO of BILH, CDO of BILH and local development leaders to develop and implement the most effective strategies for these prospects. Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to: + In conjunction with the Chief Development Officer and senior management team develop and implement the short- and long-term vision and goals necessary to significantly increase the Medical Center's individual giving fundraising capabilities. + Helps to create and implement BIDMC's $750 million Capital Campaign including helping to set the fundraising priorities, campaign goal and building the excitement and commitment of the medical leadership, Board leadership, Foundation Committee, and top donors and ready the staff for this new intensified focus + Serve as the lead staff to the fund raising committees related to the Capital Campaign, including the Foundation Committee and the Major Gift Strategy Committee. Staff the Co-Chairs of the Campaign and most significant campaign volunteers on their prospect activity. + Serves as lead development staff to the President and Chair of the Board of Directors. + Provides fund raising updates through presentations and in writing at internal and external meetings to create engagement and excitement about the campaign. + Manages a principal gifts portfolio of Presidential/CEO prospects for BIDMC. Devises strategies to cultivate and solicit these prospects and maintain an active schedule of contact. Helps to engage them to their fullest potential as ambassadors and donors to the institution. + Manage and take the lead on select system-wide principal gift prospects that will be system CEO relationships; develop strategies in collaboration with local development vice presidents, and execute those plans with highest level relationships. + Primary responsibility is to advance the institution's individual fundraising effort to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward all major gifts ($100k+) prospects and donors and to expand the base fundraising for the institution. Works with the frontline staff to align donor interests with key capital, clinical, research and educational priorities of the institution. + Oversee the expansion of the major gift prospect base through strategic engagement of caregivers and board members in the identification and cultivation process. In collaboration with Operations and Research, the VP ensures that the major gift pipeline continues to grow annually through effective outreach by frontline staff. + Develops and implements strategy to secure transformational gifts (gifts of $25 million or more). Manages relationships with transformational gift prospects. Develops plan to pursue first 9-figure fund raising strategy for BIDMC. + Expand international fund raising program building on BIDMC's and the BILH system's most prominent clinical, educational and research programs. + Develops annual operating plan and financial goals, along with supporting budget, for review and approval; prepare and present regular updates of fundraising results. (essential) + Recruit, mentor and lead a team of highly successful gift officers and create a climate of focus and productivity to carry out cultivation and solicitation efforts. Establish and implement appropriate metrics and measurements for staff. (essential) + Serve as a resource at the system level for front line fund raisers on strategy development as needed. + Drive forward medical center's highest philanthropic priorities by establishing and maintaining high quality relationships with the institutions' assigned department chairs, division chiefs, senior physicians and researchers. Work closely with the frontline fundraisers to ensure they are building strong working relationship with physicians to build the pipeline for the future. (essential) + Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department. + Manages a principal gifts portfolio of Presidential/CEO prospects for BIDMC. Devises strategies to cultivate and solicit these prospects and maintain an active schedule of contact. Helps to engage them to their fullest potential as ambassadors and donors to the institution. Education: + BA or equivalent Experience: + 15+ years of development experience, with an established track record in development and implementation of strategies and plans to substantially increase revenue and 5 years supervisory/management experience required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: + Successful track record in closing 7 and 8-figure gifts. + Demonstrated success in forging strong working relationships and engendering trust from donors and colleagues + Experience building a high performing team of front line fundraisers + Knowledge of the utilization of information systems to support fund raising activities. + Ability to travel, occasional evening and weekend work, and to adjust to other needs of the department. + Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
